While there may be a linear relationship between increased tire size and increased fun, this relationship only holds true when wider tires are paired with the correct width rims. Having a 2.8", or high-volume, tire mated to a narrow rim makes for a squirmy, poor handling experience, and when you’re on the hunt for additional fun, these characteristics are undesirable. Lucky for you, the new age of traction, stability, and speed has arrived—and its name is the Traverse 38 SL Fattie 27.5. Along with light overall weight, stiffness, and durability, another top priority for the Traverse SL was ease of use. First off, we got rid of the creaky straight-pull spokes and corrosion-prone alloy nipples. Next up, we landed on 28 J-bend spokes, for front and rear wheels, that are all the same length—making it easy to find replacements if needed. And finally, we engineered a new hub design, with a wider profile and higher flange to aid in overall stiffness. While our 38-millimeter Traverse SL is already wider than most offerings, the benefits of three-inch tires become more apparent with a proper rim interface. In search for the proper width, our engineers tested various iterations, from 30 to 45 millimeters, to determine where the sweet spot lies. What they ended up with is a 38-millimeter internal rim width that turns the Traverse 38 SL Fatties into descending machines. A wide internal rim width endows riders with a variety of advantages that are exemplified even more with plus-sized tires. The extra width allows for more tire volume, translating into more supple ride qualities, and better support for the tire, meaning that you'll experience less "burping" when riding tubeless and a drastic increase in traction. After determining the proper rim width for the plus-sized application, we began designing the rim using the same low-weight, high-strength technologies used in the Traverse SL and the Control SL. With this, we started with our Zero Bead Hook design that effectively eliminates the biggest weak spot found in traditional rims, and topped it off by using high-modulus carbon fiber to keep the weight down. And to further this theme, the wheels also include the Roval tubeless plug system, which sheds an additional 50 grams-per-wheel compared to a rim strip Each Traverse 38 SL Fattie is hand-built to our own alloy hubs with DT Swiss Competition Race spokes. Inside our hubs, you'll find sealed cartridge bearings all-around, and a quick-engaging 54t DT Swiss star ratchet system in the rear that allows you to power over rocks and roots without delay. And while machines do a decent job of building wheels, we choose professionally trained humans to build ours, as they catch various flaws that a machine would otherwise miss.

From the purist gravel racer to the mixed-surface fanatic, Terra CLX II provides a level of weight savings and material confidence that’s unheard of in the all-road or gravel space. This tier of weight-savings translates to rocket-like acceleration off the starting line, nimble performance in the hills, and unleashed efficiency on those loaded-down long-haul excursions. Weighing in at just 1250 grams, the Roval Terra CLX II are the lightest wheels in their class, rivaling pure climbing wheels in terms of weight and out-performing in raw toughness. We were able to get even lighter than before (50 grams lighter) by utilizing Low Flange Disc (LFD) hubs, borrowed from the Alpinist CLX II wheels. What’s being carried forward from the previous generation, is the rim. With its multiple Unbound victories, we we kept what was already class leading, and extended our lead. Because Terra CLX II is a hooked rim, you’re able to ride almost any tire and pressure. Thanks to the 25mm internal width, they work seamlessly with 28-47c tires (up to 80 PSI), giving you options to customize your setup for what’s ahead. Using Roval LFD hubs, still spinning on DT Swiss 180 hub internals, Terra CLX II continues to provide flawless ride quality. The CINC ceramic bearings inside do some serious heavy lifting when it comes to the efficiency of these wheels. Even with laundry list of demands that need to be met for the serious gravel racer, to the all-road explorer—the Roval Terra CLX II checks every box with authority. - Rim: Terra CLX Carbon Clincher, 700c, Disc Brake, Tubeless Compatible - Rim Details: 32mm Depth, 30mm External Width, 25mm Internal Width - ERD 577mm - Hub: Roval Light Hub (LF13/LF14R) Center Lock, DT Swiss 180 Ratchet EXP 36t internals (10 degs), 100x12mm & 142x12mm, Shim. Born on the World Cup, destined for your local trails. We poured World Championship-winning engineering into developing an all-new alloy for these Control wheels. To increase the new material's durability, we customized our shot peening process—where metal projectiles are shot at the alloy to increase its strength—meeting the precise demands of our XC riders. If that wasn't enough, to eliminate creaking and reduce weight, individually customized sleeves are chosen to bond every single rim. The result is a wildly over-engineered, trail-ripping, best-of-the-best, aluminum wheel; held to the same standards as our highest-end Control SL carbon components. Whether you are looking for a solid set of training wheels that will handle it all or a big upgrade from entry-level wheels, Roval Control Alloy is the go-to wheel. The trails in our neck of the woods get pretty hairy pretty fast, so we've found them to be the perfect testing ground for fast and tough wheels like our Traverse 29 Carbon. The steep climbs and descents helped inspire some pretty radical designs, and most importantly, left us with no doubt that these wheels will exceed your expectations. Let's talk about those expectations. They include everything from the ability to stay true after launching off drops to being light enough to efficiently pedal to the top of a climb, and they all begin with the rim. Our engineers knew they wanted carbon fiber, and with the inclusion of our Zero Bead Hook design, they were able to implement a continuous fiber layup across the sidewall and rim bed. And when paired with a whopping 30-millimeter internal rim width, they made a wheel that's super resilient to impact with low rolling resistance and incredible traction. You'll also find that it helps prevent "burping" during hard cornering, while also making tubeless set up quick and easy. Along with light overall weight, stiffness, and durability, another top priority for the Traverse was ease of use. First off, we got rid of the creaky straight-pull spokes and corrosion-prone alloy nipples. Next up, we landed on 28 J-bend spokes, for front and rear wheels, that are all the same length, making it easy to find replacements if needed. And finally, we engineered a new hub design with a wider profile and higher flange to aid in overall stiffness. A wider rim does a variety of things for ride performance, better supports the tire for increased confidence and grip, and it affords you the ability to run lower pressures that help spread impact out over a larger surface area to reduce the risk of damage. And when you combine this girth with the notoriously fast rolling 29 platform, you're left with an incredibly stiff, quick to accelerate wheelset that climbs just as well as it shreds descents. After designing the perfect trail rim, we kept our lightweight and durable design properties in mind with the wheel build, hand-lacing the rims with DT Swiss 350 Classic hubs via 28 DT Swiss Competition Race spokes and brass Pro Lock nipples. Inside, you'll find sealed cartridge bearings and a 36t quick engagement ratchet system for quick accelerations. We also wanted to ensure that each wheel was built correctly, and we found that this could only be achieved by hand. Machines, we found, have a tendency to miss little mistakes that humans catch. Each wheelset comes packaged with a SRAM XD driver, 11-speed freehub, and a tubeless valve stem in order to make tubeless set up a touch easier. *Please note that Shimano freehubs are sold separately. - Assembly Method: Hand built at every step; from rim layup to the last nipple turn. - Bearing Type: DT Swiss Sealed Steel Cartridge Bearings - Extras: 19 and 31mm OD end cap options included, Roval tubeless tape and tubeless valve, Spare Spoke and Nipple Kit, System Weight Limit: 240lbs / 109kg - Hub: Roval DT Swiss 350 J-bend, 6-bolt, Star Ratchet 36t internals (10 deg), 110x15mm & 142x12mm thru-axle, SRAM XD Freebub, (Convertible freehub and endcaps) - Nipple: DT Swiss Hex Prolock Brass 2.0x14mm - Rim Details: 25mm Depth, 35mm External Width, 30mm Internal Width, ERD 594 - Rim Type: Traverse Carbon, 29, Disc Brake, Tubeless Ready, Zero Bead Hook Design - Spokes: DT Swiss Competition Race J-Bend, Front: Two-Cross 28 count, R: 282mm, L: 279mm, Rear: 282 Two-cross 28 count, DS: 280mm, NDS: 281mm - Tire Size: 1.95 - 3.0 - Max Pressure: 40 psi - Weight: Wheelset 1,800g (including tubeless rim tape and tubeless valve)
